Alem Organization

EFF is working in partnership with the Alem organization providing financial assistance to poor mothers who have no means to begin work.  Women are organized in income generation activities such as baking and selling injera (main staple) and selling it to hotels.  We do this parallel to accessing orphans and vulnerable children living in the Alem community who are in  difficult circumstances and helping them by providing the opportunity to go to school.   We believe that without improving the economic problem of their mothers/caregivers, the problems of the children will not be solved.  Women in the program are required to participate in skill training services on a regular schedule at the Alem facility.  The purpose is to empower mothers/caregivers economically so that they can take care of their children.  Women are also held accountable that they must pay some of the money back. For more information on the Alem organization please visit
