Update on our HIV work:

August 2011

EFF is helping an orphanage named  Bete – Se’ida in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia which gives a home to babies and young children who have  AIDS or are HIV positive.  This organization works with an adoption agency where they advocate and successfully find families, many in the Unites States, to adopt and care for these children.  In the United States, a program called “Project Hopeful” provides support for the families who adopt these children.    This orphanage also helps women who are HIV positive or have AIDS.   Some of them still have their children with them which is an ideal situation:  keeping families together.   The project has three phases: 1) rehabilitating the women 2) training the women (identifying their interest and providing training accordingly 3) provide seed funding, so they can use their training and transform their lives and get back into the community.  It is optimal to try and keep these women with their children as long as possible and this is a huge goal at the orphanage which is sometimes called a nonorphanage for these women and their children.  See Projecthopeful.org
